Wall and Ceiling Vapor Retarders/Barriers

Wall vapor retarders/barriers are typically installed on the inside of the outer wall between the interior surface which is often gypsum board and the wood or metal studs on the frame to reduce moisture infiltration. Condensation occurs when warm interior air meets cold air from the outside walls, creating an ideal environment for the growth of harmful mold and bacteria. Over the course of a single heating season a hole that is less than one square inch can allow nearly eight gallons of water to infiltrate the building envelope. Americover offers highly puncture resistant ceiling and wall vapor retarders/barriers that meet or exceed the permeance requirements for these applications.

Americover's string reinforced polyethylene has a scrim patter of nylon strings that run through the material creating a strong stable material. The product is produced with a mix of virgin polyethylene resins. Product is available in 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 mil thicknesses as well as some fire retardant versions.

DURA SKRIM consist of two sheets of high-strength virgin polyethylene film laminated together with a third layer of molten polyethylene. The white outer layer contains UV inhibitors and thermal stabilizers and the black outer layer(s) contains carbon black to enhance outdoor life. The white outer layer is also designed to reduce heat buildup and condensation. A heavy scrim reinforcement placed between these plies greatly enhances tear resistance and increases service life. DURA SKRIM's heavy-duty diamond reinforcement responds to tears immediately by surrounding and stopping the tear.

Griffolyn®'s patented, high-strength reinforcement materials provide superior puncture, tear and abrasion resistance. From outstanding weathering characteristics to custom features, such as fire retardancy, anti-static properties, corrosion inhibition or heat shrinkability, Griffolyn® products offer the performance you need.

Tuff-Scrim™ Poly is an extrusion laminated reinforced film. Tuff-Scrim is made of two layers of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and one layer of polyester string reinforcement scrim. Tuff-Scrim is significantly stronger and more tear resistant than standard 6 mil poly films. The extrusion lamination process and high strength reinforcement scrim make this film exceptionally strong.

Butyl Tape is a 35mil thick double sided black rubber tape used to adhere overlapping panels of vapor barriers or vapor retarders together.

Vapor Tape is a heavy Duty, weather resistant, white sealing tape with a acrylic adhesive used for seaming large panels of vapor retarder.
