Americover recently had the pleasure to tour a local organic farm, Archi’s Acres Inc. of Escondido California, founded in 2006. However, this farm is not just a USDA-certified organic greenhouse operation it’s an institution for Veterans to learn how to become successful in the sustainable agriculture industry.
The hydro-organic farm is owned by husband and wife, Colin and Karen Archipley. Colin is a combat-decorated marine sergeant and Karen was an entrepreneur in the fashion industry. Their organic farm produces and distributes living basil, cut kale, chard, spinach and more to local grocery markets such as Whole Foods and Jimbo’s.
Archi’s Acres Inc. partnered with Cal Poly Pomona College of the Extended University to create the 6 week certificate and accredited program VSAT (Veteran’s Sustainable Agriculture Training). This course earns 17 units of academic credit as well as an agricultural entrepreneurial incubator certificate. Participants come from all over the globe to learn about organic production, hydroponics, greenhouse techniques, the ins and outs of farm ownership and management and much more. They even have job placement opportunities at the end of the program.
This opportunity is great for anyone who has a desire to learn the trade of organic farming, especially for transitioning service men and women who want to become and entrepreneur. Sustainable agricultural is in a much higher demand now with the fluctuations of climates, droughts, and extreme weather disasters. Archi’s Acres Inc. has had more than 200 graduates trained to provide our nation with high quality food using minimal natural resources. We applaud what your company is doing Colin and Karen.
