Constructions season has just begun, and it’s the perfect time to talk about the importance of safety on the worksite. This is especially true for fire safety. Fire Retardant Plastic Sheeting is an essential part of the safety measures we will be discussing.
The Most Common Safety Risks that Lead to Fires
It’s imperative that construction staff is aware of the most common cause of construction fires, how to prevent them, and how to recognize signs of danger.
Exposed of Frayed Wires
The rubber material used to insulate your wires will naturally deteriorate, becoming frayed and damaged over time. Make sure to check your wires often and replace them when needed.
Overloaded Electrical Circuits and Faulty Electrical Work
One of the main causes of fires on the job site is overloaded electrical circuits. Remember that power strips only increase the number of outlets available—they do not increase the capacity of power that the outlet can receive. If you notice warning signs of an overloaded power circuit like overheating, sizzling, buzzing, or flickering, unplug the power immediately!
Hot Work – Welding, Cutting, and Heating
Construction and demolition activities that use sparks, flame, or heat poses an obvious fire hazard. The use of portable gas and combustible equipment requires proper safety precautions and an appropriate cool down period.
Overheating of Unsupervised Machinery
Overheated machinery can include anything from laptops to industrial machinery. Don’t ever leave electronic machinery unattended for long periods of time.
Exposed Flammable Liquids or Gasses
Flammable liquids are present on almost every construction site. At normal room temperatures, flammable liquids can give off enough vapor to form burnable mixtures with the air. Consequently, they can be a very serious fire hazard. Flammable liquid fires burn extremely fast and give off a large amount of heat that often results in clouds of thick, black, toxic smoke. Contractors must be aware of these hazards and how to work safely with them.
Reduce Risk and Fulfill Safety Compliance with Fire Retardant Plastic Sheeting
It’s important to use the proper plastic sheeting for your construction site to comply with safety regulations and reduce collateral damage in the event that a fire breaks out. Here’s a list of the fire retardant sheeting for construction sites that have been trusted by Americover’s clients for decades.
