When constructing ponds or retention basins, using high-quality pond liner plastic or geomembrane liners is essential for preventing seepage and ensuring long-lasting water containment. Ponds, aquaponics, and outdoor basins are complicated to line due to their unique shapes and heavy-duty application process.
For more than 25 years, Americover has been a source for pond liner plastic and geomembranes. By leveraging our network of US-based manufacturers, we can have your material built to size and delivered to your job site within a week (times can vary during peak season). Benefits of Custom Fabricated Pond Liners and Geomembrane Liners
Custom-fabricated pond liners and geomembrane liners offer numerous advantages. One of the primary benefits is the increased design flexibility the liners give the dimensions and contours of your pond or basin, easily accommodating other important pond products such as drain pipe debris netting to help create a reliable green infrastructure.
Another advantage is fewer seams, leading to greater strength and eliminating the risk of vulnerabilities and potential leaks. Furthermore, custom liners reduce installation time and labor costs, since they are created to fit your project and may not need as much welding on the field.
“Proper installation of pond liners is the foundation of a successful water containment project. Off-the-rack products do not offer the same amount of customization as products fabricated for your project.”
– Charlie Adkins, Americover Account Manager

Packaging and Deployment Methods for Liners:
Pond liner plastic sheeting and geomembrane liners are carefully packaged to maintain their integrity during transportation and storage. The liners are accordion folded in two directions, marked on the top with the necessary information for installation, and securely fastened to pallets. Some liners are provided in large, tight rolls, fastened to the pallet.
To deploy the sheeting, begin by determining the amount of sheeting you will need. One of the simplest ways to do this is to divide the pond into terminals and measure the height, width, and depth of each section. Map and measure the pond at multiple points – both at its widest and its smallest.
Before unfolding the sheeting, prepare the installation site. This may involve tailoring the shape of the area. Clear the area of any debris, sharp objects, or potential hazards that could puncture the liner.
Due to its accordion fold, the liner should be unfolded one direction at a time. Different liners will have different instructions about unfolding and installation. Most of the time, the instructions will be written on the product itself. For more information about deploy custom fabricated liners, refer to our information sheet.
As you deploy the liner, have team members hold the sheeting in place. Use sandbags or rocks to temporarily secure the edges while team members secure the sheeting into place.
Investing in custom-fabricated pond liners or geomembrane liners is a wise decision for any water containment project. Their tailor-made design ensures a perfect fit, reducing the risk of leaks and increasing their lifespan. By following the proper packaging and deployment techniques, you can achieve a successful and long-lasting pond or basin that meets your water storage needs.
