What is a Containment?
Harmful materials come in many forms, which include biological, chemical, radiological, and physical. Containments and secondary containments prevent spilling, leaking, corroding, emitting, and otherwise escaping into the general environment where it can have devastating effects.
When Do I Need a Containment or a Secondary Containment?
Industries like construction, oil and gas, and waste management that work with hazardous materials in the US must follow containment regulations. Some or all of the following may be required depending on what you are storing and where you are storing it.
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
- Department of Transporation (DOT)
- Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
- Uniform Fire Code (UFC)
- International Fire Code (IFC)
- National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA)
The requirements vary by agency, but the concept is the same. Protect people, animals, and the environment. Secondary containments are safeguards for when primary containments fail. Here are more heavy-duty liner resources.
How Polyethylene is Used In Containment
Polyethylene materials have non-corrosive, impervious, and chemical resistant properties making them an ideal solution for a variety of containment applications. It’s commonly used to create grids, containment drums, secondary containment bins, pond liners and covers, divert water toward drain pipe debris netting, as well as barriers and airtight containment systems.
At Americover, we specialize in polyethylene liners, covers, and sheeting. We can help you find the solution that best suits your needs and meets federal regulations. Whether you need something for outdoor applications that require UV resistance, in-ground projects that need crack resistance, or indoor containments that must meet fire safety regulations, we work with you to find or create a product that matches your exact specifications.
