Our BOLD® Black Out Light Deprivation Tarp is one of our best-selling and best-reviewed products. There are many benefits that come with this black polyethylene plastic sheeting.
Light deprivation is absolutely necessary when growing plants like mushrooms, cannabis, asters, and poinsettias. Not only will this accelerate plant growth, but it can also enhance the quality of your plants.
In addition to horticulture, light deprivation can benefit aquaponics as well. The light deprivation sheeting has proven to kill off algae growth in your aquaponics tank.
Black Ground Cover
Our Black Ground Cover has been used by growers for decades! Here are some of the best benefits of these products.
Black ground cover acts as an effective weed barrier for your plants. Using polyethylene for coving plant bedding keeps light from reaching the weeds underneath and stops them from growing and ruining your harvest.
When using polyethylene sheeting as a soil cover, only the exposed soil in the holes where the plants are growing lose water to evaporation from sun exposure. This means that more moisture is available in the surrounding soil for plant roots to soak up. This will also save you time and energy since you won’t have to spend as much time watering your plants.
Soil Temperature & Accelerated Plant Growth
A layer of black ground cover over bare soil raises the soil temperature 3 to 5 degrees F to a depth of between 2 and 6 inches. Grow bed lining is especially beneficial at night when the temperature drops and can cause your plants to grow more slowly. Higher temperature and humidity levels are directly correlated to quicker plant growth.
Raised Grow Bed Liner
8 mil and 12 mil black/white Dura Skrim has successfully been used as raised grow bed liners and trough liners due to its highly puncture-resistant feature. It’s an effective barrier to protect the wood and insulate the soil.
Black Fire Retardant Plastic Sheeting
Black Fire Retardant plastic sheeting is often used as a temporary ceiling for grow rooms with 12’ high walls. It can be installed at 8’ to reduce the ceiling height in a drying or curing room after harvest.
Lining the floor in your grow room with black plastic sheeting can help prevent flooring damage. It’s waterproof and easy to clean up spills from soil, growing medium, or water.
